Emily's First Month

I'm trying to be a good mom to a second baby and do as many things that I did with Kylie with Emily. I am working hard at taking pictures. Thankfully, I have a very handy i-phone that takes pretty good pictures and video. I am also trying to make sure that I get lots of pictures of just Emily and not always take sister pictures. I've heard from other people with multiple kids or friends/family that said they wished they had more pictures of them individually. I'm trying to take that into consideration, but big sister kissing on her little baby sister is just adorable.

With that being said, I think I'm doing pretty good. I've always been an avid 'picture taker' and I hope that as the girls grow up, I am able to capture their growth as well as all of those special moments like the one above.

Emily's Doc Appt: This was my fave outfit for Kylie!

Emily Grace is now a one month old. And where did that time go? Fly? Yes it did and much more so I think than when Kylie was a baby. Our days just seem to be flying by at an even quicker rate. This having two kiddos really keeps your day busy. From day one, Emily was growing quickly. Like I said before she had already gained 2 and a half ounces in less than a day. When she left the hospital she was 9 lbs, 10 oz. The next morning she was 9 lbs, 12.5 oz. I think we've got a good eater on our hands! By Thursday, so 6 days old, she was already back up to 10 lbs exactly. (Oh and I got a picture of that on the scale at the doctor's! Super Mama!!) When we went in for her 2 week check up, Emily was 10 lbs, 10.5 oz. The goal is to be at your birth weight by 2 weeks and she was well passed! At this appt, she was in the 96th percentile for height and 98th percentile for weight.

Poor thing.. Mama made her wear at least a couple of newborn outfits. Belly shirt!

At her one month check up, everything looked great. Her weight was (shocker!) 12 lbs, 5.5 oz. (98%) and she had gained an inch and was 23 inches putting her in the 99th percentile for height. She is just a big girl all around. Her head control is great. She is very steady already when you hold her up, but does get tired and flop it down after a bit. She tolerates tummy time pretty well, but Mommy has to do this strategically with all of her spitting up and reflux. We waited until she was one month to decide if we wanted her on medicine for her reflux. We are trying out Zantac this month to see if it helps. The doctor said that she will still spit up (not a problem with her weight gain, lol), but it should help with the reflux inbetween feedings and help it not burn so much when she does spit up. We are hoping it helps.

Kylie encouraging Emily for tummy time. So sweet!

Emily never fit into newborn size diapers, even though we squeezed her in a few at the beginning. She is actually being squeezed into size 1 diapers at the moment. As soon as we are out of ones, we're bumping her up to size 2. Emily is definitely our sleeper. This was prayed for and we hope it keeps up. She sleeps a good 5 or 6 hour chunk most nights, waking somewhere between 2 or 3 for her first feeding. (We all pretty much go to bed after we put Kylie down at 9... :) ) She also takes 2 really good naps, one in the morning and one late afternoon. I have found that she likes to nap on her tummy, so right now she naps on the couch, so I can see her. I'm a little worried about when it's time to put her in her crib, but for now this works for us.

Sometimes Emily has to hang out in the Boppy on the island while we make lunch.

How is Kylie handling baby sister? Well the first week, Kylie slept great, napped well, and was in awe of her sister, 'Emmy'. The next week, Kylie began to test Mommy and Daddy. Daddy had to go back to work and Mommy was working on getting our schedule figured out. She continued to nap okay for Mommy this week, but started waking up at night. And then one night, Kylie refused to take a bath. We had a good 45 minutes of dealing with time out. Kylie was naked. Fun. And then the next night, she refused to let us brush her teeth. Nice. We were worried it would be something new every night. Kylie was definitely adjusting to baby Emily and also to Casey going back to work. She missed him dearly and all she wanted was to spend time with him when he got home from work. Other than those moments, Kylie has been great. She still loves Emily and gives her a bazillion kisses a day. However, she wants to hold her, but complains almost instantly that she is too heavy and wants her off. Haha. Kylie is starting to get over the fact that Emmy doesn't need her pacifier 24/7 and also that every diaper is not poo poo. Before bedtime and naptime, there has to be a minimum 2 sets of a kiss and hug for Emmy. It is very sweet, but sometimes we JUST WANT HER TO GO TO BED! ;) She loves her sister and I hope that it remains, so they can grow up as best friends.

This night we bribed Kylie with helping for Emily's bath, but she had to take a bath first! ;)
Lastly, I wanted to compare my little ladies. As babies, they look so much alike to us, besides Emily being a couple pounds bigger. Here are a few pictures to compare. See if you can tell who's who without looking at my captions.

In case you didn't figure it out, Kylie is on the left and Emily is on the right. On your phone, Kylie is on top and Emily is on the bottom, every other picture. Mobile views mess up everything... :) What is funny is that Emily looks a lot more like 2 to 3 month old Kylie!
