So alike, yet so very different.

Instead of attempting to 'catch up' on the past few months, I'll be giving a little insight (more for my record than anything) on the alikes and differences between the girls.

1. They look alike. Well this was determined the second Emily was born. Even as she grew up, she still managed to look mostly like Kylie did as a baby. However, now at 10 months, it's easier to see the differences. They both have/had long eyelashes and fuller lips, ears that stick outward towards the top and eyes that smile. They both teethed early, Kylie having all her teeth before the age of one and Emily is well on her way, getting each tooth technically before Kylie did. So the next bullet explains why they look more different now, but Emily also has brown/maybe hazel eyes while Kylie's eyes were still a slate blue/grey. However, Kylie's eyes are hazel now, so maybe Emily's just changed earlier.

2. Emily is bigger. This was also determined from the moment Emily was born. Uhh, 10 pounds, 3 ounces. Just 2 ounces shy of being 2 pounds bigger than newborn Kylie. Emily has stayed in the upper 90's in her percentiles for height and weight and at 6 months had already exceeded Kylie's height and weight at one. This is the same for clothing and shoe size. Emily is 10 months and today is wearing one of Kylie's old 2T outfits and size 4 shoes, not that she wears shoes, really ever. Just for the record, Emily is in size 4 diapers (about to switch to 5's). If Kylie was in diapers now, she would be in a 5, just for a reference.

Skinny-winny Kylie at 10 months.

3. Emily is bald. We thought it took a long time for Kylie's hair to grow in. She had a Mohawk/comb over effect to her hair for the longest time, but now has super curly, thin, but full head of hair. When wet, it goes to her mid-back. At 10 months, we could clip a bow into Kylie's hair without a headband and she had curls in the back. Emily, on the other hand, barely has hair. We can tell now, over the past couple of weeks, that it is starting to grow in. It will be interesting to see what type of hair she has! Right now the very top of her head (the crown?) has the longest hair and it will blow in the wind.

4. Emily is brave. From the get-go, we could tell that she was much braver than little miss cautious Kylie. When Emily wants something, she will let you know. This goes for food, a toy, her sister, MOMMY. She also wasn't afraid to learn how to crawl, stand, or walk. This can be shown in her many bumps and bruises she has had as of late. She is not afraid of much, except maybe the swing at the park and mommy walking away.

5.Emily gets into everything. Let me tell you, this child gets into everything. With Kylie, we were able to tell her 'no, no' or 'no touch' a few times and she understood. She would sometimes joke with us and pretend to get something, but would almost always mind us when we told her not to touch something. Emily, not so much. She will just look at you like you A. didn't even say anything to her, B. said something laughable. or C. really think that you make the rules around here! Phew, she's a handful! It didn't help that at 9 months, we were dealing with ants in the kitchen!! Also, big sister isn't much a fan of little sister always getting into her stuff and rather quickly. Emily can bolt across the room in a matter of seconds and destroy it in less time. One of Emily's favorite things is to take apart a floor puzzle as Kylie/we are trying to put it together or just sit on it. While funny and down right adorable to watch, it makes the puzzle activity take forever! Did I mention that Emily is a handful yet?

6. Emily doesn't gag and vomit.  If you don't remember, Kylie would gag, choke, and vomit after eating if there was any inkling of a chunk in her food. It took her a looooong time just to get comfortable with a cherrio. She has come a long way, but we still have to watch her eating because on occasion there is a minor issue. Now Emily, from the beginning of food, baby cereal/oatmeal, she liked it chunky and thick. (This posed an issue with constipation for her, as did the introduction of any new food which we are finally passed. No pun intended.) She quickly decided that she didn't like pureed baby foods anymore and it was pretty difficult to get her to eat from the spoon, unless it was savory, like mixed veggies or a dinner mixture. She downed the first 3rd Foods jar we gave her with chunks of noodle and carrots in it, which Kylie never was able to eat and obviously at this point we wouldn't give it to her, haha. Needless to say, Emily is mostly eating what we eat at only 10 months. She pretty much demands it. Once her molars come in she will be ecstatic because she will be able to chew more big people food.

7. Emily is a mess. As a baby, Kylie would pick at things with her dainty little pointer finger while Emily will grab whatever it is whole fisted and instantly shove it in her mouth! We rarely had to worry about choking hazards for Kylie. Emily has already eaten a few rolly pollies, a chunk of dirt, some grass, and attempted to eat the wood chips at the park. We can't leave her for a second! She also is a mess when it comes to eating actual food. I pretty much strip her down to a diaper every time we eat now. And back to the loves food bit; As you are trying to clean Emily up (which she can't stand) she will continue to eat any leftover crumbs left on her tray and make 'mmm' sounds. She cracks us up!

8. Emily is not afraid of vacuums. I had to wait to vacuum the house a lot of times until Casey got home because Kylie was deathly afraid of the vacuum, even the kitchen dust buster. Emily, on the other hand, will get excited at the sound of it and crawl quickly towards it. It's a game to her for me to vacuum around her. Thankfully Kylie mostly outgrew this fear. She tolerates it by going into another room.

9. Emily naps. Kylie was a terrible napper, yet decent bedtime baby (not as a toddler though...). It would take me, at times, an hour to get Kylie to nap for only 20 minutes. I remember being so exhausted just from trying to get her to nap! Emily is a great napper and we're still working on the nighttime. As of right now, I still nurse her somewhere around 3am and again when she fully wakes up in the morning. This is down from sometimes 4 times a night just a couple of weeks ago. Emily has gone through phases, mostly depending on teeth cutting, of sleeping well or having a tough time falling asleep. You can usually tell if her teeth are bugging her if she's WIDE awake in the middle of the night or difficult to get to sleep. Emily usually naps two times a day, once around 10am and again around 2pm. Most days her naps are just shy of 2 hours; teething days she probably only naps for 45 minutes at a time. We will be working on weaning Emily off of nursing at night in hopes of her sleeping through the night very soon.

 10. They have a love-hate relationship. I guess that means they are sisters and will be fiery best friends as they grow up. This relationship highly depends on Kylie's mood. She can be super excited and happy one second, then angry and throwing a fit the next. A lot of times, Emily gets caught up in either or both of these extremes. It's hard for Kylie (you can see I'm defending her at the moment, but 5 minutes from now when she hurts her sister, I may not be so generous.) to control her emotions (because she is only almost 3, we must remember) and even when excited can pull Emmy's arm or hug her just a little too hard. She loves hard and tests us hard. We are working on this every part of every day and try to catch Kylie being sweet and let her know that we see it. I love having two girls, but man I can already tell we will have our hands full pretty much for the rest of our lives! To add a little more to their relationship, Kylie is so sweet and will say 'Good morning Emmy' repeatedly when Emily wakes from a nap or in the morning and will come over to her to give her hugs and 'bisses'. Same goes vice versa, when Emily sees Kylie first thing, she gets super excited and kicks her legs and makes a silly grunting noise with her mouth kind of puckered. They do love each other, usually.

Her face when she spotted sister on the playground.
That's as close as Kylie would get for the picture. Haha.

Getting acquainted with the grass.

Life is stressful. Life can be rough. And it definitely has been both of these for us over the past few months, but I would not have it any other way because life is also amazing. Just one smile, one little 'thank you mommy', or one little 'love you sister' can turn it around in an instant. We love our girls so much that even in the difficult times we praise God for them and our lives. We have so much to be thankful for and these girls are at the top of the list!

Here are some other pictures from the past month or so that I wanted to share.

Kylie was so happy to go to the park with Daddy! She even learned how to climb the big ladders.

Emily needed a quick sink bath after dinner, so Kylie thought she needed one too. Much to our surprise, she fit just fine!

Reading books with big sister.

Kylie's most favorite thing to do. Dress up.
First swim in our pool!

My attempt at a family picture. Go figure, Kylie is the center of attention! ;)

Little miss blue lips didn't want to get out of the pool. 'No I'm not cold.' Yea right!

Emily chipped her tooth and now slightly looks like a vampire.

It is hard to believe that we will have a 3 year old and 1 year old in about a month!!

Loved this post! I wish we got to see you more, so it's fun to read about your girls! Wonder how having a boy/girl combo will be alike and different since we have the same age gap. :)
